How do rapid tests work ?

Once a virus or bacteria enters the body, the immune system starts to produce antibodies. Antibodies are chemicals that are part of the immune system that recognize invaders like bacteria & viruses and mobilize the body's attempt to fight infection. Their presence is used to tell whether that animal has that virus or bacteria in its body. In other words, most of the rapid tests look for the antibodies rather than looking for the virus or bacteria itself.

As is true for all screening tests, a reactive rapid test result must be confirmed with a follow-up confirmatory test before a final diagnosis of infection can be made.

Rapid tests are used to determine the presence of viruses and bacterias in collected samples of blood, saliva, serum or feces. A rapid test is a screening test that produces very quick results, in approximately 20 minutes at most.
